Creative Process
The framework of this piece centered around the choreographic device/structure of Rondo ABACADA. This resulted in exchanges between the dancers and the space with motifts of running, dropping, rolling, lines, circles and repetition. The inspiration of structure then led me to the theme of time and how inevitability it just keeps going. I asked myself questions like, what is so interesting about time? Can we control it? Why does it exist? What devices can we use to measure the intervals of time? With all my questions asked but not answered, I quickly grew fond of a particular device-an hourglass. With many metaphorical, physical and spiritual symbolisms represented through an hourglass, what fascinated me the most was how time can “stop...in the middle...at the neck”.
